The Sundance Institute is a non-profit organisation that was set up by award winning actor Robert Redford in 1981, named after his 1969 American Western film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". The organisation provides support for actors, screenwriters and directors both creatively and financially, and hosts the world famous Sundance Film Festival, providing support and finance for independent film and cinema producers.
History of the Film Festival
The Sundance film festival is an annual festival which supports ad showcases the work of independent film creators. It is held across four locations in Utah; Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Provo.
The festival began in 1978 as the US/Utah film festival to attract new filmmakers to Utah.
Although the institute was developed in 79, the festival name itself was only changed to Sundance in 85.

Each year the festival screens 200 films from a total of over 9000 submission across a range of categories:
The festival itself covers many different theatres and locations across Park City, Utah. This years festival was held between the 19th and 29nd of January. This is a 10 day festival.
